{"id":100214,"date":"2021-07-13T08:48:36","date_gmt":"2021-07-13T12:48:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=100214"},"modified":"2021-07-13T08:51:48","modified_gmt":"2021-07-13T12:51:48","slug":"robinsons-general-store-celebrates-100-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/robinsons-general-store-celebrates-100-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Robinson&#8217;s General Store celebrates 100 years"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Robinson&#8217;s General Store has been serving the Dorset area for a century, and that called for a celebration, albeit a small one due to the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Saturday, July 11, the store&#8217;s new owners, Katie and Mike Hinbest, and staff served up cupcakes to customers beneath festive balloons. Staff members were given &#8220;100 years of Robinson&#8217;s&#8221; sweaters. And they had a surprise in store for the Robinson family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mike acknowledged that running a business for 100 years, as four generations of Robinsons have done, as a &#8220;pretty amazing feat&#8221; before presenting Brad Robinson with a custom painting of the store that includes Brad in his signature red vest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?height=314&#038;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FRobinsonsGeneralStore%2Fvideos%2F2075835085909764%2F&#038;show_text=false&#038;width=560&#038;t=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"314\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowFullScreen=\"true\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Robinson&#8217;s began as a tiny general store in 1921 and has since expanded into 14,000 square feet of grocery, hardware, homeware, gifts, and apparel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The store remains an integral part of everyday life for both locals and cottagers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA lot of the locals have grown up with this store and it means so much to them,\u201d said Katie. \u201cIt\u2019s been so cool to see the comments on the Facebook page from people who visited the store in the &#8217;50s and &#8217;60s and are still coming back now decades later.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media-doppleronline-ca.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com\/2021\/04\/Robinsons-vintage-photo.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-97152\" width=\"606\" height=\"403\"\/><figcaption>A young Brad Robinson stands out front of Robinson&#8217;s with his father, Harry Robinson, and a customer in the 1940s. (Photo courtesy of the Robinson family)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Katie and Mike <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/robinsons-general-store-sold-new-owners-say-the-store-is-100-per-cent-here-to-stay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">intend to build upon the store&#8217;s long tradition as a mainstay in the community<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to moving to Huntsville two years ago, Katie worked in healthcare and Mike was in the automotive business, but they always wanted to run their own family-oriented shop. \u201cWe were looking for something new and wanted a challenge so when we came across the store we fell in love with everything it represents,\u201d said Katie. \u201cWe are right on beautiful Lake of Bays.
