The Song Project returns for an eleventh season, showcasing HHS students and alumni

This year, The Song Project celebrates its 11th season. The current group features an ensemble of four amazing Huntsville High School (HHS) vocalists singing a variety of funk, R‘n’B, pop, rock and new country songs backed by an all-star faculty/student 12-piece band. It will be performing its annual concert at the Algonquin Theatre on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 7:30 p.m.

“As always, we have an excellent band that features a superb three-piece horn section. With two returning vocalists and two new additions, the vocal line is as strong as ever,” says producer Greg Sutherland. “This year, we are also showcasing a new band that Jordan and I put together last spring called Soul45. It features Song Project alumni playing exclusively Soul, Funk and R‘n’B tunes. The band is a mix of older and younger players. Some of them were actually in the very first Song Project band that we assembled.”

Over the past 11 years, this ensemble has opened for artists such as Jully Black, The Tenors, Colonel Chris Hadfield and Hawksley Workman, appeared on City TV’s Breakfast Television, performed at the TLDSB Evening of Excellence, the Dara Howell Olympic Gold Medal Celebration, the National Character Education Conference, the ParaSport Games Closing Ceremonies, the 55+ Winter Games Opening Ceremonies, the Muskoka Technology Achievement Awards, the Ministry of Education’s OASBO Conference, the G8 Youth Summit Concert, and at the Huntsville Festival of the Arts. As well, the unit has headlined their own sold-out performances, and played at various private functions and corporate events.

This year’s version of The Song Project, which is produced by Sutherland, features Celeste Dupuis, Claire Jarvis, Kendra Jones, and Ally Lockhart on vocals, Music Director Jordan Riley on keyboards, Jack Gaughan on guitar, Jack Nickalls on bass, Caleb Millar on drums, Owen Finn on percussion, Trevor Carr and Anna Temple on trumpet, and Carson Pearse on trombone. The new collective, Soul45, is produced by Sutherland, and features Song Project alumni Taryn Gray, Courtney Morey, and Jenny Smith on vocals, Music Director Jordan Riley on keyboards, Jack Gaughan on guitar, Benji Jordan on bass, Bevan Wilson on drums, Trevor Carr on trumpet, Carl Tusz on tenor saxophone, Mar Streppel on tenor, baritone and alto saxophone, and Carson Pearse on trombone.

Also appearing at this year’s show are other Song Project alumni: Cole Jodouin, Jesse Jodouin, Curtis Martin, Megan Mikhail, Emily Phinney, and Ally Renwick.
