This year marks the 35th anniversary of honouring and celebrating Terry Fox and his epic run across Canada.
Huntsville’s own run, walk, bike, blade event takes place on Sunday September 20, leaving from the Huntsville High School parking lot. Registration begins at 8am (note the earlier start time). Speeches and warm up are at 8:45 – and participants take off at 9am.
You choose your route from one kilometer, 5 kilometer, or 10 kilometer distances. How you decide to cover the distance is a personal choice. You may run, walk, bike, blade, wheel it – anything that doesn’t require a key to get it going. Strollers and pets are also welcome. At the end of the course participants may enjoy a light breakfast of yogurt, fruit and muffins and an opportunity to mingle.
Organizer Bill Coon said, “Last year 360 participants and 90 volunteers were involved to raise over $58,000. Since its inception in Huntsville our community has raised over $1 Million.” No entry fees are required and there is no minimum donation. As Terry himself said, “ if you have given a dollar, you are part of the Marathon of Hope”. Eighty-four cents out of every dollar raised goes directly to cancer research in Terry’s name, making the foundation one of most fiscally responsible charitable organizations in the country.
If you can’t make it to the event you may still donate. People may donate directly at www.terryfox.org, through a link at the Facebook Page – Terry Fox Run 2015 Huntsville, or pledge sheets are available at both the Muskoka Medical Centre Pharmacy in the Professional Building below the hospital and at Scotiabank in the Huntsville Place Mall.
2015 Terry Fox t-shirts are available at Scotiabank and online at www.terrryfox.org under the merchandise heading.
Come out on September 20 and Carry Terry’s Torch!!
