Community members are invited to a Remembrance Day ceremony at the Huntsville Royal Canadian Legion Branch 232 on Saturday, November 11 at 21 Veterans Way.
Those wanting to lay a wreath at the Huntsville Cenotaph can order the wreaths ahead of time from the Legion at a cost of $50 or $100 by calling 705-789-4641.
Members of the community are encouraged to gather at the Legion parking lot at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday. After the ceremony, a parade will follow and then community members are invited back to the legion for lunch. There’ll be soup, sandwiches, and dessert. All items have been donated by the community.
“I think it’s really, really important that we remember our Veterans and those who made the ultimate sacrifice. In this day and age, I think it’s really important that we remember the Veterans who are serving, our peacekeepers, the families… and the children who need our support, and Remembrance Day is just an excellent way for our community to be able to get together and pay our respects to all Veterans,” said Betty Smith, Huntsville Legion Treasurer, and Past President.
Smith also noted that the Poppy Campaign is the Royal Canadian Legion’s only fundraiser and the funds go to support Veterans and their families for things like medical expenses or home improvements.
Smith thanked the Town for always supporting the legion and said she hopes to see everyone at the Cenotaph.
