Although the 2018-19 hockey season just recently ended, the Junior C Otters organization has already begun building their team for next year.
With the departure of coach and GM Brent Tomlinson earlier this month, co-coach Marc Gagnon was named as head coach and the scouting for a new assistant coach began right away. Gagnon did not have to look hard.
The Otters are pleased and proud to announce the addition of Tyler Gervais-Rolfe as an assistant coach. Gervais-Rolfe, a Shelburne native who now resides in Huntsville, is an ex-Otter who completed his last two junior hockey seasons with Huntsville.
“Tyler brings five years of Junior experience including Jr A, B and C,” noted Gagnon.
Of his hockey experience in Huntsville, Gervais-Rolfe said, “Being able to play over the last two seasons in Huntsville has given me perspective of just how great the community of Huntsville really is.”
He brought excellent leadership skills to the Otters team this year and can apply that leadership to the next group of players to take the bench next season.
“I’m very excited being able to make the transition from player to coach,” said Gervais-Rolfe. “The Otters are a great organization and I’m very pleased to work along with coach Gagnon and our 2019 Otters.”
The gratitude goes both ways for these two coaches taking over the bench. “I am very happy to have him on board as he is a natural leader,” said Gagnon. “I’ve known and coached Tyler for five years and saw that he would be a great coach in his future. The future is now and I couldn’t be happier to have another ex-player on the bench.”
