SUMMARY:Poetry & Pastries: Poet James Morehead & Frenchie's Bakery Creperie
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the poetry of James Morehead (Poet Laureate – Dublin\, California) and local pastries from Frenchie’s Bakery Creperie. \n\n\n\n\nJoin James Morehead (Poet Laureate Emeritus – Dublin\, California)\, as he reads selections from his books\, fields questions on writing poetry\, and discusses his writing process. There will be a book signing after the reading. Local pastries from Frenchie’s Bakery Creperie will be provided. \nThis event is family-friendly and hosted by the Lake of Bays Township Public Library. \nJames Morehead is the Poet Laureate of Dublin\, California\, host of the Viewless Wings Poetry Podcast\, and has published several collections of poetry including “canvas”\, “portraits of red and gray”\, and “The Plague Doctor.” James’ poem “tethered” was transformed into an award-winning hand drawn animated short film\, “gallery” was set to music for baritone and piano\, and his poems have appeared in the Ignatian Literary Magazine\, Beyond Words Literary Magazine\, 2nd Place – Oprelle Oxbow Poetry Contest 2022\, Citron Review\, Ekphrastic Review\, Loud Coffee Pres\, Cathexis Northwest Press\, and other publications. James has performed his poetry at the Patagonia Poet Laureate Celebration\, on the SF Chronicle’s Total SF podcast\, on NPR’s Poetically Yours\, as Guest Poet at the 20th Annual Haiku Festival (Chicago)\, and other events. \n“You’ll come to expect the unexpected\, because leafing through this book is akin to walking through an exhibition\, through a series of galleries wherein Morehead’s far-reaching imagination is released.” —Robert Dunsdon for The Colorado Review \n“James Morehead’s poetry pulses with vibrant detail. In this new collection\, this poet has created a vivid document that captures what it means to be perpetually inspired by the world in all its facets.” —Tina Cane\, Poet Laureate of Rhode Island and author of Body of Work and Year of the Murder Hornet \n“The poems ricochet off the visual images in unexpected ways\, so that this book – where word and image converge – reminds me of a pinball machine. As in that song by The Who\, Morehead is our ‘pinball wizard.’ Whether writing free verse\, haikus\, or ballad-like rhymes\, he ‘sure plays a mean pinball.’ Morehead creates his own boisterous ‘cacophony of bells / that flash in reds\, greens\, and golds.’” —Donald Platt\, author of Swansdown
