From the Huntsvile/Lake of Bays Fire Department’s Station 4 in Baysville
The annual fireworks display in Baysville, organized by the Station 4 Volunteer Fire Association, have been cancelled. This is due to provincial legislation that mandates specific safety zone and setback requirements that are no longer met at the Baysville Dam location. The Fireworks Team, who are licensed and solely responsible for the discharge of fireworks and mortars, must make sound safety decisions and adhere to provincial safety standards to maintain their licenses.
Unfortunately, no other suitable locations in Baysville can accommodate both the safety requirements and the space needed for spectators to gather safely.
We understand this news may be disappointing for many residents and visitors. The Station 4 Volunteer Fire Association encourages everyone to enjoy the July 1st Canada Day fireworks presentation over Hunters Bay in Huntsville as an alternative celebration.
We appreciate your understanding and continued support for community events. Safety remains our top priority, and we look forward to exploring options for future celebrations that meet all necessary safety standards.

Sad to see the Baysville fireworks cancelled. That area was safe in the past and has had no incidents that I’m aware. Perhaps it’s the sensationalism of what were previously known as forest fires, have been branded “wild fires”.
That characterization has fueled sensitivity and aggressive safety regulations.

As a long time resident this make me sad but I have to agree with the reasoning for this change. There have been a few times the fireworks came very close to the crowd. The launch area is beside many residences and too close to the crowd. Last year the lower parking lot was closed to the public, now we know why.
This has nothing to do with wild fires it is all about safety for the spectators.
Maybe a safer place to launch the the fireworks can be found above the dam and the crowd can gather at the town docks.
