Muskoka Seniors was honoured yesterday (October 19) by the District of Muskoka with an Outstanding Community Contributor award as part of the District’s annual Community Services Recognition Program.
The program recognizes “outstanding contributions made by individuals or groups related to the goals and values of Muskoka Community Services. It is also intended to strengthen our many partnerships within Muskoka and to recognize the extraordinary achievements or contributions of individuals,” according to the Community Services Committee agenda for the meeting.
Receiving the award on behalf of Muskoka Seniors were executive director Donna Nairns and director Karen Waters. The group received a certificate and floral arrangement at the presentation; a reception followed for all award recipients in the Fran Coleman Room at The Pines in Bracebridge.
“(This award) proves that when you work together, look what you can do,” said Waters. “We’ve partnered with a lot of different places to help individuals who are less fortunate. It felt nice to take it back to the staff and share it with them – there’s a lot of staff and volunteers involved. Without them we wouldn’t be able to do all of the things that we do.”
