Miss Canada, Huntsville’s Ciara Thompson, now has an international title, too

Ciara Thompson crowned Miss Petite Model Universe in Madrid, Spain

After two years of competing in Canadian pageants and winning the Miss Canada title, Ciara Thompson decided to take her dreams international by entering the Miss Top Model Universe pageant in Madrid, Spain.

She was severely bullied through elementary school, high school and even university, leaving her self-esteem at a low. After researching about pageants and discovering they went much deeper than surface-level beauty, Thompson decided to try something new and step out of her comfort zone. She entered the Miss North Ontario pageant and was later scouted through Facebook for Miss Canada in 2017.

After winning Miss Canada 2017, Thompson was given a list of various international pageants she now qualifies for.

She had always dreamed of travelling to Europe so when she found out that Miss Top Model Universe would be held in Madrid she knew she had to enter.

Not only did she win Miss Petite Top Model but she also won two other subcategories: Miss Popularity and Miss Beautiful Face.

“There were contestants from all around the world,” said Thompson. “I think the most challenging part of this pageant was that I had to work extra hard to form relationships with the other girls and impress judges because I didn’t speak any Spanish. Nearly everyone else did, so that was tough. Even though it was more challenging it was even more rewarding to know that I won out of so many outstanding women!”.

The platform that pageants have given Thompson inspires her to be a role model in her community. Not only is she an advocate for homelessness but she is also extremely passionate about ending bullying.

Last year she collected and gave out over 150 care packages for homeless individuals and this year she is planning a fundraising gala to generate more money to help end homelessness in Muskoka.

“People may have a rough outlook on pageantry but really it is something life changing. Being a part of them has made me grow as an individual and I wouldn’t change anything I’ve done,” said Thompson.

What’s next for Thompson? She plans on entering Miss Universe Canada in the fall which is the qualifier for Miss Universe. She also plans to attend law school and eventually become a child advocate lawyer.
