Huntsville Place Mall is just 30 years old, much to the surprise of some attendees at today’s celebration. “The number one response today is ‘I can’t believe it’s only been 30 years’,” said the mall’s marketing and promotions manager, Lindsay Edwards. “We’ve had a great turnout today.”
It’s Muskoka’s only indoor shopping centre and four of the mall’s merchants have been there from the start: Hallmark, Anthony’s Hair Design, Ron Henry Jewellers and Coles Book Store.
“This is our way of giving back,” said Edwards of the mall’s celebratory activities which included a free BBQ from Metro, free cake from King’s Buffet, a reptile show, mascots, face painting, dance demonstrations, and deals from mall vendors.
Stores have changed over the years, of course, with Winners and Dollarama as recent additions after the departure of Zellers. There is a development pending at the mall’s east end and the mall is working on securing new merchants. Plus, Tesla recently installed a bank of chargers at the mall, and Edwards said she gets regular calls from Tesla owners in the GTA who are excited that they’re available here.
Up next, Edwards is looking forward to the mall’s 30th Christmas. “We have a new design concept for Santa – we have five co-op students and community volunteers working on it.”
It’s nice to know that after 30 years, people are still coming out and supporting the mall.
