The annual Project Porchlight Food Drive in support of the Salvation Army takes place on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, starting at 6 p.m.
It was scheduled for last week, but organizers decided to postpone the event due to inclement weather.
Fire trucks, with the assistance of the OPP, EMS, Public Works, and Motorcyclists of Muskoka, will go house-to-house on Wednesday evening to collect non-perishable food donations across our community.
To participate in the food drive, residents are asked to turn their porchlight on and place their non-perishable food donations at the end of their driveway or on their porch, where they will be collected by first responders and volunteers.
The Project Porchlight Food Drive has been an integral annual community tradition. It supports the Salvation Army food bank, which distributes food and other goods throughout the year.
Steve Markham, Fire Prevention Officer for Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department, invites community members to participate, noting that these are tough times for many in our community. “Donating non-perishable food items is a great way to help out your neighbour in the true spirit of Christmas and bring our community closer together this holiday season.”
If you won’t be at home or would rather drop food donations off in person, bins will be placed outside the locations noted below during the day for drop-offs.
