SUMMARY:Almaguin Community Soundscapes
DESCRIPTION:Almaguin Community Soundscapes is an exhibition that surrounds one with the sounds of spring using a multi-channel speaker system and recordings made by residents of the Almaguin Highlands. The spring season is a special time of the year in the region as the snow melts\, the ice breaks up on the lakes and the arrival of insects and birds is loudly announced by the sounds made by peepers. Visit us at NAISA to find out how you can contribute sounds from your home in the Almaguin Highlands.

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Waterscape by Lina Choi
DESCRIPTION:Waterscape is a sound sculpture by Lina Choi that produces water-like sounds through small motor-driven devices. Each element creates subtle drops and flows\, forming an evolving\, immersive sound environment. Inspired by the movement of water\, the work reinterprets these rhythms through mechanical systems\, blurring the line between natural and artificial. The surrounding sounds invite listeners to slow down and experience a shifting sonic landscape.

SUMMARY:Song Sung Blue - A Reel Alternatives Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Kate Hudson was nominated for an Oscar for her luminous performance alongside Hugh Jackman in Song Sung Blue\, a musical drama based on the true story of two down-on-their-luck musicians who form a joyous Neil Diamond tribute band. \nHudson and Jackson play Milwaukee-based husband and wife duo Mike and Claire Sardina\, who found love and purpose performing as “Lightning & Thunder” in the ‘90s. Together they experience soaring success and devastating heartbreak with an infectious never-say-die optimism and heartwarming dignity that has audiences cheering them on. From their rise on the local scene (even opening for Pearl Jam) through personal struggles and a remarkable comeback after a life-altering accident\, theirs is a chaotic but uplifting love story that you won’t forget. \n“A startlingly strange\, undeniably entertaining true-life story from the heartland of American showbusiness; a lovable crowdpleaser whose feelgood flavour won’t prepare you for the way the plot repeatedly and savagely twists like an unsafe fairground ride.” The Guardian \nUSA | 2025 | 132 minutes\nDirector: Craig BrewerCast: Hugh Jackman\, Kate Hudson\, Ella Anderson\, Michael Imperioli\, Jim BelushiDistributor: Universal Pictures

SUMMARY:Beetlejuice Jr
DESCRIPTION:The Huntsville Theatre Company (HTC) 2026 Theatre Is My Passion Program is bringing a cult classic to the stage for the whole family to enjoy with Beetlejuice Jr! \nTheatre Is My Passion is HTC’s after school program for children ages 8-18. Participants learn what it takes to put on a theatrical performance and perform a full play as the final product. This year’s production is Beetlejuice Jr. The frightfully funny musical is based on the beloved movie turned Broadway phenomenon. Lydia Deetz is a strange and unusual teenager\, still grieving the loss of her mother and obsessed with the whole “being dead thing.” Lucky for Lydia\, she and her father move to a new house haunted by a recently deceased couple and Beetlejuice\, a delightful demon with a real zest for life. When Lydia calls on Beetlejuice to scare away anyone with a pulse\, this double-crossing spectre shows his true stripes\, unleashing a (Nether)world of pandemonium. \nPerformances are June 18th-20th at the Algonquin Theatre. There are four performances\, three evening shows at 7pm and one matinee at 2pm. Tickets can be purchased at algonquintheatre.ca.

SUMMARY:Poetry & Pastries: Poet James Morehead & Frenchie's Bakery Creperie
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the poetry of James Morehead (Poet Laureate – Dublin\, California) and local pastries from Frenchie’s Bakery Creperie. \n\n\n\n\nJoin James Morehead (Poet Laureate Emeritus – Dublin\, California)\, as he reads selections from his books\, fields questions on writing poetry\, and discusses his writing process. There will be a book signing after the reading. Local pastries from Frenchie’s Bakery Creperie will be provided. \nThis event is family-friendly and hosted by the Lake of Bays Township Public Library. \nJames Morehead is the Poet Laureate of Dublin\, California\, host of the Viewless Wings Poetry Podcast\, and has published several collections of poetry including “canvas”\, “portraits of red and gray”\, and “The Plague Doctor.” James’ poem “tethered” was transformed into an award-winning hand drawn animated short film\, “gallery” was set to music for baritone and piano\, and his poems have appeared in the Ignatian Literary Magazine\, Beyond Words Literary Magazine\, 2nd Place – Oprelle Oxbow Poetry Contest 2022\, Citron Review\, Ekphrastic Review\, Loud Coffee Pres\, Cathexis Northwest Press\, and other publications. James has performed his poetry at the Patagonia Poet Laureate Celebration\, on the SF Chronicle’s Total SF podcast\, on NPR’s Poetically Yours\, as Guest Poet at the 20th Annual Haiku Festival (Chicago)\, and other events. \n“You’ll come to expect the unexpected\, because leafing through this book is akin to walking through an exhibition\, through a series of galleries wherein Morehead’s far-reaching imagination is released.” —Robert Dunsdon for The Colorado Review \n“James Morehead’s poetry pulses with vibrant detail. In this new collection\, this poet has created a vivid document that captures what it means to be perpetually inspired by the world in all its facets.” —Tina Cane\, Poet Laureate of Rhode Island and author of Body of Work and Year of the Murder Hornet \n“The poems ricochet off the visual images in unexpected ways\, so that this book – where word and image converge – reminds me of a pinball machine. As in that song by The Who\, Morehead is our ‘pinball wizard.’ Whether writing free verse\, haikus\, or ballad-like rhymes\, he ‘sure plays a mean pinball.’ Morehead creates his own boisterous ‘cacophony of bells / that flash in reds\, greens\, and golds.’” —Donald Platt\, author of Swansdown
