This calendar is reserved for non-commercial community events. What does that mean? Your event must be free or of nominal cost, available to anyone (although adult-only events are fine), and not for profit (but we do make exception for artists showing their work who would profit from any sales made and musicians hosting small-scale concerts). Not sure if your event fits? Drop us a line at [email protected] to check, or go ahead and submit anyhow – submissions are moderated and we’ll approve yours if it fits our criteria. Thanks for helping make Huntsville a vibrant community!

Women’s March Muskoka 2019

January 19 @ 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm

Women’s March Muskoka is a grass-roots initiative aiming to create community and raise awareness to the issues and challenges facing women in our community whilst supporting the national and international Women’s March movement.

Women’s March Canada – Muskoka would like to acknowledge that Muskoka is on the traditional territory of the Anishinabek (ᐊᓂᔑᓈᐯᒃ), Huron-Wendat, Odawa and Mississauga/Eastern Anishinaabe (Ojibwa) peoples. We keep this acknowledgment at the forefront of our march and thank the Anishinabek (ᐊᓂᔑᓈᐯᒃ), Huron-Wendat, Odawa and Mississauga/Eastern Anishinaabe (Ojibwa) peoples for allowing us to gather.

This year’s event is aimed at bringing together our community in solidarity. Everyone is welcome at this event; all ages, and all identities. This is fully inclusive, women-led, initiative. Why? Because, we believe that the answer to addressing these issues relies on partnerships, collaboration, and community support. We stand together in solidarity with our partners and our children for the protection of our rights, our safety, our health, and our families.

We hope that this event will continue to inspire people to think about how they might participate in social change on a local, provincial, national, and global level.

Whilst, here in Canada, we have made great strides towards addressing women’s issues there is still so much work to do to bridge-the-gap. There remains a disproportionate level of poverty, abuse, discrimination, misogyny, inequality, and prejudice, toward women that is exacerbated with the intersect of physical ability, socio-economic status, gender identity & sexual orientation, immigrant status, race, and creed. No woman should be excluded from the rights and freedoms that are our fundamental human right.

Join us, as a community, in Huntsville on January 19th, 2019 and let’s walk in solidarity.
