Building community with pancakes at HHS

On Friday, December 15, Huntsville High School teachers hosted HHS students for their Annual Pancake Day. Students were invited to move through the building taste-testing different variations of pancakes and toppings.

HHS Principal Kelly Picken explained that it is a long-standing tradition at HHS—the student leadership group facilitates the event and helps the teachers get organized, setting up the stations and keeping the batter bowls full.

“The event is meant to build a positive culture and bring the school together as a community. This helps to create connections between students and staff whereby the teachers can show the students that they care about them and want them to have a sweet start to their day,” explained Picken via email correspondence.

“Each station was run by a different department and the pancakes were flipped by the teachers. Each station offered different toppings so that everyone was on the lookout for their favourite!”
