Huntsville councillors have agreed to help the Curling Club get to the next phase of building a new curling facility at the McCulley Robertson Sports Complex.
The Curling Club first presented council with a proposal for relocating the Club in February 2014. Since that time there has been lots of chatter about what a new facility might look like, perhaps incorporating other user groups such as the Huntsville Soccer Club and a gymnastics club, but plans seemed to have stalled from there.
Staff have been directed to work with the Curling Club to identify the required land at McCulley Robertson Sports Complex for the new facility and work through a memorandum of understanding that will see the Curling Club buy the land for $1.00 while ensuring that the other costs associated with the property transfer be the responsibility of the Huntsville Curling Club. The Club will also promise to plan the facility and location in a manner that accommodates future expansion.
