It’s that time of year again – the ice is out, the floor of the arena is ready, and the countdown is on for the Huntsville Hawks Junior C Lacrosse team’s home opener on Thursday, May 4. Tryouts are underway and the team has its first one-day, three-game tourney in Wilmot on Saturday, April 22.
This year, the Hawks welcome new head coach Don Monahan. Coach Monahan played both minor and junior lacrosse in Huntsville before moving to Barrie. He was involved in lacrosse in the south as he ran clinics and coached teams over the past 25 years in Barrie, Stayner, Shelburne, and New Tecumseth. He and his teams have had great success, earning multiple league and provincial championships.
Coach Monahan’s son, Jordan Monahan, who has played both minor and junior lacrosse as well as hockey, will be bringing his expertise to the team to assist Don on the bench this year .
When asked what his expectations are for this season and the team, Coach Monahan replied, “I expect my players to go out every night and COMPETE. The scoreboard does not always reflect how good or bad a team has played. COMPETING every night ensures us that we will be okay with what is on the scoreboard at the end of the game, win or lose.”
